What to expect when you refer to Vision Therapy Centre
If you suspect that your patient or student has a vision problem that may require vision therapy, you can directly refer them to Vision Therapy Centre by using the referral form below. Our clinic will contact the patient via phone or email to book a Vision Therapy Assessment appointment with our board-certified Developmental Optometrist at either our north or south clinic depending on the patient’s convenience. Following the assessment, we will provide you and the patient with a detailed report outlining the diagnoses, prognosis and treatment recommendations.
If the patient is a candidate for vision therapy, they will be enrolled in the individualized vision therapy program that will be customized for their specific condition(s) and needs. The vision therapy program will consist of weekly in-office sessions with a vision therapist that are 30-45 minutes long and daily home therapy that requires 15-30 minutes per day. Vision activities and exercises will be performed during the sessions using the aid of therapeutic lenses, prisms, occluders/patches, targets with timing mechanisms, specifically designed worksheets, colored filters, digital aids, and visual perceptual exercises. Exercises are delivered to focus on the needs of each patient on a one-on-one basis and are customized to tailor to their specific visual condition.
The length of the program may range from several weeks to months depending on factors such as the patient’s age, type and severity of the condition(s) and compliance. Frequent progress checks will be performed by the doctor throughout the program to monitor progress and progress reports will be sent to you to keep you up to date.
